Acupuncture is a therapy where fine disposable needles are inserted into the tissues through the skin at specific points on the body. It is used to generate a neuropsychological response in the body to promote a healing effect. This healing effect may include; pain relief, reduced inflammation, muscle spasm relaxation, and improved local healing response.
Dry Needling is a rapid short-term needling to alter dysfunctional tissue in order to improve or restore function. A single disposable needle is placed into the trigger point of the affected muscle until a twitch is felt in the muscle. As this is a very strong stimulation of the nerve endings patients will usually feel a strong aching sensation during the session as well as post treatment aching which can continue for up to 48hrs.
